Project Description: Grade Level: K-adult Expected Implementation Period: August 04-June 05 Learning Outcomes:
Proposed Project: I
plan to have a variety of resources at my disposal for use at any grade level
from kindergarten to adult. The ABC
books, scrapbooks, culture boxes and photographs can be used with a bit of
alteration for any level. I located a
number of primary level books written in English about the life of Thai and
Vietnamese people. These books would
be excellent ways to introduce Thailand and Vietnam to young children. Besides having
presentations about the culture of the countries and the life of the peoples,
I am also prepared to talk about specific historic events like the Vietnam
War and World War II. Through both
books and personal testimonies by American and Vietnamese Veterans, I have
gained greater insights that I am now able to share in my presentations. In addition, I
would like to make my services and materials available to students at the
middle school and high school levels, as well as to community groups. I have already been invited to speak at
our local Rotary Club and several other groups. I want these
materials to be accessible for all students and want to encourage people to
ask for my assistance. I am now planning
to “revisit” other countries where I have traveled and make scrapbooks, ABC
books and culture boxes for those countries as well. In our second grade
social studies curriculum, there are standards and objectives which include
cultural and geographic studies of the continents. I have agreed to visit second
grade classes throughout the school year, to give presentations on
each of the continents as the students study them. I look forward to
sharing my travels and to teaching our students about different countries and
cultures. Screenshots:
